What Is A Food Intolerance?

When digestive problems occur after a certain food or drink is consumed, which results in gastric discomfort.

FODMAP in one of the most common groups of food intolerance which include lactose, fructose, fructans and galactans. FODMAP stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols, which are short-chain carbohydrates (sugars) that the small intestine absorbs poorly.

Other intolerances include Sucrose and Starch.

How Do I Know If I Have A Food Intolerance?

Speak to a doctor or dietitian first if you are experiencing any gastric discomfort. There are ways a health professional can diagnose an intolerance.

Once diagnosed, you may be referred to another health professional, such as a gastroenterologist or dietician depending on your particular diagnosis.

Discussing with a professional can save you time, guesswork, and ensure there is no other heath condition that needs treatment.

Please note hereditary fructose intolerance cannot be helped with any supplementation.
